About Green Energy, Great Jobs

This month, Governor Granholm will be traveling around the state with her economic development team to talk to local business leaders who are growing a new industry right here in our backyard. She'll be visiting cities where the alternative energy sector is growing jobs and helping to reduce our reliance on foreign oil. And she'll be listening to hear what we can do to make sure Michigan continues to be a leader in this critical industry and that Michigan citizens get good-paying alternative energy jobs.

This is Michigan’s future; it can mean clean, sustainable energy for our nation and thousands of jobs in a thriving Michigan economy.

Michigan is the state that put the world on wheels, and with some hard work and a solid plan, we will be the state that revolutionizes the way we fuel our cars and power our homes. Green energy is leading to great jobs right here in Michigan.

Get started

Governor Pumps Ethanol (Photo) Michigan is taking steps: When she took office in 2003, Governor Granholm got to work on making Michigan a leader in the production and distribution of alternative energies like ethanol and biodiesel. Her aggressive approach has doubled production of ethanol in Michigan and created hundreds of new jobs as more plants go online. She's putting ethanol pumps at all state fleet fueling stations to fill the tanks of over 1,800 flexible fuel vehicles within two years. And, she worked to create over 20 new ethanol retail locations for the general public. She even signed into law a reduction in the gas tax for environmentally friendly biofuels.

What you can do: That's just one of the ways the governor is working to protect Michigan's natural resources and diversifying our economy. But there's plenty you can do yourself. There are hundreds of ways that we can reduce our environmental impact and keep Michigan beautiful for our children's generation - and most of them involve making a simple change in our regular routines.

Just one small step: Pick one small change in the way you go about your daily routine. Stick with it. We'll send you a reminder in a few months and tell you how you're change has helped keep our state a cleaner, healthier place to live, learn, and earn.
